It wasn't often that Summer found herself wanting to be in the presence of someone else. Or take a day off from work. In her life, work always took precedence, and it was especially true now that she was in charge of her family's business.

However, she felt burnt out. She felt like she was dragging. She felt tired.

Looking down at her hands, noticeably not as fabulous as they usually were because of her constant typing and dirty work, Summer decided it was time to go out to Lilycove to get her nails done. However, she decided not to go alone.

Elisabeth Fiorelli was the person who received the invitation, with her offer to pay for her manicure and pedicure set. It was just money to Summer, not like it mattered one bit.

Once they arrived, Summer sat down in the massaging chairs, dipping her feet into the warm water waiting for them. The place was entirely booked out for the two of them, alone in the salon except for the workers.

"Fuck. I needed this..." she groaned as the chair reached a particular aching muscle in her back.

Doing this felt a bit luxurious. Elisabeth had not ever been one to regularly get manicures or pedicures, despite her own vanity in her appearance; she'd taken to handling most of her beauty regimens on her own, nailcare included. When Summer Atreides invited her to go on this outing, however, her own curiosity couldn't resist accepting.[break][break]

Not because the event was paid for; thanks to several untimely deaths and inheritances, Elisabeth had money enough for several lifetimes.[break][break]

Women in the Rocket organisation rarely seemed to congregate in large droves, much less so outside of work hours. Aside from ana fell, she genuinely didn't have many female Rocket friendships that extended outside of criminal activity. Summer, it seemed, was another exception.[break][break]

The thought warmed her, and Elisabeth found its realisation as soothing as the warm, scented water that massaged their feet. "Do you do this often?" the florist asked, amused, as Summer sank into her chair with visible relief. "I think I'll just be getting a Kalosian manicure today."[break][break]

It wouldn't last, but Elisabeth kept that thought to herself. Gardening was a hazard to one's nails, rough and unforgiving.

"I did it more often when I wasn't in charge of Prescott Industries. I had more free time back then. But now, I feel like I've been swamped with business, meetings, and all this other crap. So I try to go when I can," she said.

"Besides... I think it helps add to the appearance."

Summer closed her eyes, relaxing as the chair dug into a knot in her back. What a great feeling.

"Really? Nothing else? I am paying after all. You can get a full set if you wanted."

Not that she was trying to pressure her out of it. But it just seemed... almost basic, to Summer's standpoint. Then again, she was known for getting over the top items.

"There can be an elegance in simplicity," Elisabeth said with a small smile, waving the concern aside. "The pedicure and manicure alone are plenty. You have outdone yourself with generosity, Chairwoman."[break][break]

A funny title, that. Elisabeth had worn it once: not for long, but enough for its weight to sit broadly on her own shoulders. She had disliked it, she'd decided.[break][break]

Although how much of that was due to her being in possession of her husband's corporation, she couldn't say. She loathed it on principle.[break][break]

"Do you find your new role in Prescott Industries satisfactory?" Elisabeth asked instead, curious, as she sank into the comfort of her own massage chair. "Or do you feel swamped in all the... other crap, as you put it so eloquently?"[break][break]

A teasing lilt had entered her voice, gently ribbing in its jest.

Summer smiled, waving her free hand to dismiss her words. Though, she was happy to take the compliment. She wouldn't admit that to Elisabeth.

"We both deserve a break and time to be what we are: women. Let's just spend time doing something we want to do and talking shit about the world for once," she said.

Sipping her beverage, she contemplated the question for a moment before nodding.

"I enjoy my position. It just takes a lot out of the day. I was doing many of the tasks I have before, when I was under my father. However, there were a few aspects he still controlled when he was alive. Those things I am still learning, which is why it's a pain."

She stretched her legs out as her nail tech came over, picking out her design and color for her toes.

Growing up, Elisabeth hadn't had many friends, either. Particularly not girls her own age. The other noblewomen she'd met had seen her as a rival in the intrigue of Kalosian debutante balls; her outdated countryside fashions and manner had led her to silent judgment and mockery, paired with a distaste for her bookish interests and the dirt under her nails.[break][break]

What elegance she had gained had been from the example of her mother, and her own quiet sense of style had been formed by observing those around her and adjusting her tastes to theirs. What sharp wit she had gained had been taught by the viper's tongue her mother-in-law wielded like a knife.[break][break]

"We can 'talk shit' about whatever you like, Summer," Elisabeth said, laughing faintly. "What is it about the world that disappoints you at the present moment?"[break][break]

Being touched, even by the nail technician, startled the blonde for a moment. It was a subtle gesture, a slight jolt of surprise that did nothing more than splash a tiny bit of water at her approach. It was nothing memorable -- if anything, it might suggest she was ticklish -- but a flush of mild embarrassment washed over Elisabeth all the same.[break][break]

"I'm glad you're familiar with most of the workload. That must help a good deal. Do you have anyone you trust working alongside you?"[break][break]

Elisabeth had possessed neither benefit when she herself had taken on a similar role, once upon a time.

What in the world disappoints her?

Summer wasn't entirely sure she could pick just one thing that didn't please here. Truly, there were a multitude of issues going on that bothered her, yet most of them she couldn't solve or give an answer to. She sighed, sipping her drink before speaking.

"How about the fact we are trapped here, in Hoenn, with no where else to go? Not that I had planned a holiday get away to another location, but the mere idea that we're trapped in this dome makes me ill," she said with a scoff, spreading her fingers apart as the tech worked on her hand.

"I have several underlings that were loyal to me still working for me. My brother occasionally helps, though I believe he'd rather stay away from the Prescott industry name. His boyfriend has helped me a great deal, and I have hire outs from the outside I've been able to rely on... though I wouldn't say I trust them."

Summer glanced to Elisabeth.

"And you? How are you holding up with your title?"

At Summer Atreides's observation, Elisabeth laughed drily in agreement. There was something bitterly ironic, the florist thought, in escaping the confines of the past decade only to wind up trapped beneath the dome of Hoenn's barrier.[break][break]

Like they were scurrying Rattata, fleeing from one hole to another.[break][break]

"A temporary measure, hopefully," she remarked, with no real faith in the statement. "Ideally we live long enough to see the barrier lower. METENO willing, that is."[break][break]

In some ways, having a spirited conversation like this while a nail technician worked on their hands and feet felt rude. In other ways, it echoed countless years Elisabeth had felt ignoring servants and staff in the manor that had been her home, accepting them as background noise and decoration in the day-to-day of her life. [break][break]

There had been a time such thoughts had incurred a twinge of guilt in her, but the discovery that she was ignored as readily as they expected her to ignore them had been a sobering one. It wasn't difficult to feign ignorance about the nature of your employer, not when you had a paycheck to earn and mouths to feed.[break][break]

"Reliability and trust are not one and the same, no. I am glad you are savvy enough to know the difference, but I can't say I'm surprised by that either, Summer. You've always been shrewd." She flashed a small smile to her friend, pleased at the way she outlined her thoughts, and added, "As for me, I think I am adjusting well enough to my new... role."[break][break]

Something else she'd learned in Kalos: staff may keep their mouths shut, but their ears were always listening.

They tiptoed around their Rocket statuses with stealth. But everyone knew of Prescott Industries. Summer's up and coming as the CEO was groundbreaking news in the business world after she had announced the "passing" of her dear father. Of course, only a select few knew his true cause of death.[break][break]

"My father had supporters. Many of them weren't pleased when I took over. They believed I'm too young or too naive. But they fail to remember that he was the one who kept me in training about the company and did many of his tasks for him. I'm more equipped for this position than any of them.[break][break]

"They believed they could take over after he was out of the picture. Do I look like someone who'd let them step all over me? Apparently they didn't realize who they were dealing with," Summer said with an indignant snort.[break][break]

"Mhm? It's not taken too many hurdles or leaps to get used to, has it?" she asked, raising a brow. "You know you have my support. I'm more than willing to help you in whichever ways you need me to- hey! Careful around the cuticle!" she snipped.
